Mathematics Main Page

Mathematics can be difficult to define because it covers such a broad range of topics. At the simple end, it deals with quantities: how many apples does one have and what is the ratio of apples to oranges. After that, it can become very abstract and one deals less with quantity and more with patterns and models.

Math can be used to describe the structure of the universe or explain the mechanics of how a car goes down the road. One can use math to find pathways or to predict behavior of crowds. Every field of endeavor uses mathematics; it is the language we use to speak of knowledge.
